Exactly 22 years ago, his old man kicked the can. Or, to be more accurate, literally lost his fucking head. A little Ezra had stood there stunned as a Drapion had risen behind his father like a charmed Arbox. Then he watched as its pincers grabbed the man and pulled. He’d exploded like a gory confetti popper.

The thing turned its eyes to him. “!?” A squeak was all he’d managed. As he ran, Ezra felt a strange pressure on his arm. But he’d been too high on adrenaline to realize he’d left a limb behind. You might think he’d be upset that the poison type escaped. But it’d never bothered him. The ugly fucker had been Dad’s prized toy for months. He kind of had to admire it for getting out. Maybe pour it a beer for killing the bastard.

But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t kill it when he found it. Which he decided he’d try and do today.

With a Rattata perched on his shoulder, Ezra moved through the undergrowth. The faint stench of alcohol lingered on his breath. It came courtesy of a pack of his old man’s favorite beer. But he wasn’t drunk. Hell, he wasn’t even tipsy. Not yet, anyway.

“Place is dead as a fucking door nail.” Ezra remarked to Fifteen. “It’s worse than Leon’s bedroom.” An indulgent, wicked giggle emerged as the rat wiped at its whiskers. Then, it paused. Ears perked forward.

Ezra’s hand slipped to the bow at his back. Its head was specifically designed to pierce through carapace. A stick cracked as he notched an arrow. "Ollie ollie, oxen-free, motherfucker."

It was mid afternoon in Petalburg Woods and the sun was beating down on the canopy. Bug Pokemon were bustling above Shinobu's house, Caterpie and Wurmple were falling from the trees above. Shinobu heard a loud banging on his roof and decided to go outside and check it out. He brought his Zorua, Iroh, with him.

Sitting atop Shinobu's shoulder, Iroah stood guard. With the Pokemons extrasensory powers, it scanned the surrounding area looking for a disturbance. Irohs spotted the Pokemon on the roof, and told Shinobu with a few squeeks. Shinobu instructed Iroh to get up there and take care of the problem. The Hisuian Zorua ghost stepped up to the roof in a ghastly flash, and began pushing the caterpie from off the red roof.

As his Pokemon was taking care of the nuisance, Shinobu spotted a rustling in the bushes nearby his house. Without any other Pokemon to protect him, Shinobu was leery to approach, but he was a fearless Pokemon trainer, and he had a few empty poke balls if things got dicey. Walking over carefully, Shinobu inspected the bush that was rustling.

As his scope pops through the vegetation, the man smirks. It’s somehow terrifying in its angelicness. It’s not his actual target—that’d be too fucking easy—but it’s related to it. A blue little scorpion with big bug eyes. It's currently trying to eat leaves with its tail. But the poison drips onto the vegetation turning it to detritus with a sickening hiss.

Considering all the booze he’s thrown back, Ezra’s hands are surprisingly steady. A flesh-and-blood index finger slips down to the bow’s trigger. His entire world narrows to the Skorupi’s chest. Just under those layers is a beating heart. One a single bolt can silence.

So, when someone peels the bush apart, it takes him by surprise. “!?” His arm jerks up and away from this blonde idiot. It thuds into a tree a hundred yards away with an audible thunk. With a snarl, the man surges to his feet. There’s murder in his eyes. His fake arm tightens into a steel fist.

“Stupido stronzo!” His first words are barely intelligible Alto Marean. "What the fuck are you doing?” The man reaches up to shove Shinobu. His breath smells like cheap alcohol. For a moment, he looks at the bolt in a longing way. Like he regretted turning it away.

With a quick glance at the scuffle, the Skorupi bolts into the underbrush.
